How to maintain a healthy erection in old age?

Erectile dysfunction is a common occurrence in old men. However, it is good to mention that this is not a normal part of the aging process. This means that senior citizens who deal with erectile problems should not ignore this problem and accept treatment of erectile dysfunction. There are many ways in which you can do this and we will mention the most effective ones.

Practice safe sex
In order to avoid painful and unpleasant bending and twisting of the penis which is common during sexual intercourse age and to avoid potential injuries, start with the penetration only when the vagina is properly moisturized. If your partner is asking for position that are not comfortable or moves in a way that is very painful for you, don’t hesitate to tell her that.

Sedentary lifestyle is often related to erectile dysfunction and old people usually practice this lifestyle. Walking, swimming and other forms of exercise suitable for the elderly have proven to be very helpful in cases of erectile dysfunction. However, there are some physical activities that can actually ruin your erection. Although not many old men practice cycling it is worth mentioning that cycling can affect erection and lead to erectile dysfunction. If you spend a lot of time on your bicycle, it is highly recommended to use a comfortable bicycle and wear proper outfit. It is also a good idea to stand up and take breaks frequently.

Hypertension and high levels of cholesterol are a problem in many old men. This occurrence can eventually lead to erectile dysfunction. Make sure to check your cholesterol level on a regular basis and take care of the blood pressure too. Don’t forget that you can check your blood pressure at home. In some cases drugs used for high blood pressure can complicate the erection.

Furthermore, it is very important to track the level of testosterone. Even in healthy men, the level of testosterone starts dropping when they reach 50 years. The symptoms include weak sex drive, lack of energy and strength, bad mood and few other problems. There are few ways in which you can increase the testosterone level, but you must always consult your doctor first. Some people use steroids, but they can only do more harm than good at this age and if they are used for this purpose only.

Kegel exercise involve repetition of exercises focused on contracting and relaxing the muscles in the pelvis. These exercises can help both men and women who are suffering from incontinency, but there is no evidence that they can help in cases of erectile dysfunction. They probably won’t provide negative effects, but they are practically useless.

Finally, smoking is bad for the veins and they can ruin the supply of blood to the penis which is crucial for the erection. In addition, nicotine tightens the veins and prevents proper blood flow in this area. Stop smoking cigarettes as soon as possible and enjoy sex.
